Days of Our Lives is finally bringing Salem something fans do not get to experience very often: truly positive news. The weekly preview covering August 24 through August 28 teases three unexpectedly heartwarming developments, and after months filled with heartbreak, danger, betrayal, medical scares, and one disaster after another, these moments of joy could not have arrived at a more perfect time.
Salem is usually the kind of place where happiness comes with a hidden warning. Whenever one character finally gets a reason to celebrate, another crisis seems ready to explode just around the corner. This time, however, the newest spoilers suggest that three major developments could finally give several families the emotional relief they desperately need.
The first, and possibly most touching, story centers on Chanel Dupree DiMera and Johnny DiMera, who at last have something wonderful to celebrate together.

Days of Our Lives
The new parents are seen spending tender moments with their baby daughter, and the scenes teased for the upcoming episodes provide a beautiful contrast to all the fear, uncertainty, and emotional pain that has surrounded them. Chanel and Johnny have gone through an incredibly difficult summer, which makes this peaceful moment as a family feel even more special.
Chanel’s journey has been particularly heartbreaking. During her pregnancy, she was hit with the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer. In an instant, what should have been one of the happiest chapters of her life turned into a frightening period filled with impossible choices, anxiety, and uncertainty about what the future might hold.
Sarah Horton was forced to explain the difficult realities surrounding Chanel’s treatment, leaving Chanel terrified about how therapy could affect her unborn child. Her fear became so intense that she initially refused chemotherapy because she could not accept the possibility of putting her baby in danger.
Paulina Price became determined to find another option. Her desperation to save her daughter pushed her toward increasingly risky decisions, including supporting EJ DiMera’s experimental Versavix drug as a possible alternative to radiation. Paulina was terrified, emotional, and desperate, and her determination only added another layer of tension to Chanel’s already complicated medical crisis.
Johnny, meanwhile, was struggling with the terrifying possibility that he might lose the woman he loved. He wanted to remain by Chanel’s side through every stage of the ordeal, and at one point, he even considered stepping down from his role as DiMera CEO so he could devote all of his attention to his wife and their unborn baby.
EJ urged Johnny to remain connected to the family company, but understandably, business was the last thing on Johnny’s mind. He needed someone who could truly understand the emotional nightmare he was living through, which is why he often turned to Theo Carver. Theo understood what it meant to watch a mother battle a serious illness, making him one of the few people who could genuinely relate to Johnny’s fear.
Then another terrifying crisis struck.
During the July sweep, Chanel suffered a horrifying medical emergency when she went into premature labor and started bleeding. For Johnny, it was the worst possible scenario. After everything Chanel had already survived, the sudden complication made it appear as though their dream of safely welcoming their child might disappear in a matter of moments.

Now, however, everything looks completely different.
Chanel and Johnny are together with their newborn daughter, and the joy on their faces tells the entire story. After so much anxiety and uncertainty, they finally have the chance to stop worrying for a moment and simply enjoy becoming parents.
Their happiness feels even more extraordinary considering the other threats that have recently surrounded Johnny. He survived a terrifying fire after Sophia Choy tried to burn him alive inside his apartment. Sophia’s attack was tied to Kristen DiMera’s revenge campaign against EJ, adding yet another dangerous chapter to the already chaotic DiMera family saga.
Johnny survived the fire, Chanel survived the frightening pregnancy crisis, and now their daughter has safely entered the world.
For once, this particular side of the DiMera family finally has a genuine reason to celebrate.
Of course, longtime viewers know that happiness in Salem rarely lasts forever. EJ continues to create chaos wherever he goes, while the larger DiMera family remains surrounded by conflict, secrets, and dangerous enemies. Still, during this particular week, Johnny and Chanel are finally allowed to breathe. They can hold their daughter, look at the family they have created, and appreciate that after everything they endured, something beautiful has emerged from all the pain.
And that is only miracle number one.
The second major development involves Chad DiMera, who is finally preparing to welcome his children back home.

Thomas and Charlotte have been spending the summer in Boston with Jack and Jennifer Deveraux. Sending them away was an extremely difficult choice for Chad, but Salem had become far too dangerous, and his children had already been forced to experience far more emotional chaos than anyone their age should ever have to face.
Chad’s personal life had become increasingly complicated. His growing connection with Gabi Green caused even more trouble, particularly because Gabi had secretly been working as an ISA operative alongside Rafe Hernandez. Chad originally had no idea what was truly going on, and the situation became even more disturbing because Gabi had previously posed as Abigail.
That deception had an enormous impact on Thomas.
At one point, Thomas spotted Chad and Gabi together and reacted in a terrifying way by running straight into traffic. The frightening incident worsened the tension between Chad and Jack and Jennifer, eventually helping convince the family that Thomas and Charlotte needed to spend time away from Salem.
While the children remained in Boston, Chad continued dealing with plenty of chaos of his own. His complicated bond with Belle Black led to a baseball date, while the two also found themselves drawn into an increasingly bizarre mystery involving Stefano DiMera’s old chess set and a missing pawn.
The strange investigation even included old 1,000-lira bills and the disturbing possibility that Stefano may have left behind a brainwashed sleeper agent. In typical Salem fashion, what begins as one unusual clue quickly expands into a much larger and more dangerous mystery.
At the same time, Chad has been forced to watch other members of his family suffer. EJ’s attempt to use Versavix to bring Lexie Carver back has failed, leaving Lexie once again facing death. Chad has been surrounded by tragedy from nearly every direction while still carrying the emotional weight of losing Abigail.
Now, however, his storyline takes a completely different turn.
His children are finally returning home.
The reunion is even more significant because viewers will see new performers stepping into both roles. Cole Gerzmehl is scheduled to debut as Thomas DiMera on August 25, while Pippa Blaylock will also make her first appearance as Charlotte DiMera that same day.
That means fans are being introduced to a new version of the DiMera children at the exact moment they return to Salem.
The weekly preview shows Thomas and Charlotte sharing an emotional reunion with Chad and wrapping their father in a huge hug. For Chad, the scene carries enormous emotional significance. He has spent so much time dealing with grief, family battles, danger, and uncertainty that simply being able to hold his children again feels like a major victory.
For one precious moment, Chad is not fighting with EJ. He is not overwhelmed by memories of Abigail. He is not trying to solve another complicated Salem mystery.
He is simply a father welcoming his children home.
That reunion could bring a rare sense of comfort and warmth back into the DiMera household, even though fans know that in Salem, another disaster could always be waiting just around the corner.
And then comes the third surprisingly uplifting development.
This story centers on Jack Deveraux and his daughter, Gwen Rizczech.
Jack returns to Salem’s town square, where he crosses paths with Gwen while Leo Stark is also nearby. Naturally, Leo’s presence almost guarantees that even a deeply emotional family reunion will probably include at least one sharp or sarcastic remark.
But the real emotional focus belongs to Jack and Gwen.
Gwen has recently survived an absolutely terrifying experience. Her former husband, Dimitri Von Leuschner, kidnapped her and transported her to Alamainia, where she was held hostage. Leo also became caught in the chaos after getting pulled into Dimitri’s complicated and unpredictable romantic drama.
The situation quickly escalated into an international emergency, forcing Rafe Hernandez to travel across the world in an effort to negotiate their release.
Even before the kidnapping, Gwen had already been living under enormous pressure. She had been attempting to uncover EJ’s questionable activities connected to the Versavix laboratory and had every reason to believe that exposing the truth could put her in serious danger.
Then Dimitri kidnapped her.
Now, however, Gwen is finally back in Salem.
And what Jack wants from her is surprisingly simple.
He wants to embrace his daughter.
That seemingly small request carries far more emotional meaning than it first appears to. Jack and Gwen have always shared an extremely complicated history. Gwen’s past decisions caused tremendous damage to Jack’s family, especially because of everything she did to Abigail. Jennifer has found it incredibly difficult to forgive her, while Jack has repeatedly been trapped between his grieving wife and his troubled daughter.
Yet despite all the pain Gwen has caused and all the mistakes she has made, Jack has never been able to completely stop loving her.
He still hopes they can rebuild their relationship.
