Nodosaur dinosaur ‘mummy’ unveiled with skin and guts intact

“We don’t just have a skeleton,” said one of the nodosaur researchers involved. “We have a dinosaur as it would have been.”

You can’t even see its bones, yet scientists are hailing it as perhaps the best-preserved dinosaur specimen ever unearthed. That’s because, 110 million years later, those bones remain covered by the creature’s intact skin and armor.

Indeed, the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Alberta, Canada recently unveiled a dinosaur so well-preserved that many have taken to calling it not a fossil, but an honest-to-goodness “dinosaur mummy.”

With the creature’s skin, armor, and even some of its guts intact, researchers are astounded at its nearly unprecedented level of preservation.

“We don’t just have a skeleton,” Caleb Brown, a researcher at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, told National Geographic. “We have a dinosaur as it would have been.”

When this dinosaur — a member of a new species named nodosaur — was alive, it was an enormous four-legged herbivore protected by a spiky, plated armor and weighing in at approximately 3,000 pounds.

Today, the mummified nodosaur is so intact that it still weighs 2,500 pounds.

How the dinosaur mummy could remain so intact is still something of a mystery, although as CNN says, researchers suggest that the creature “may have been swept away by a flooded river and carried out to sea, where it eventually sank. Over millions of years on the ocean floor, minerals took the place of the dinosaur’s armor and skin, preserving it in the lifelike form now on display.”

Although the nodosaur dinosaur mummy was so well-preserved, getting it into its current display form was still an arduous undertaking. The creature was, in fact, first discovered in 2011 when a crude oil mine worker accidentally discovered the specimen while on the job.

Since that lucky moment, it has taken researchers 7,000 hours over the course of the last six years to both test the remains and prepare them for display at the Royal Tyrrell Museum, where visitors now have the chance to see the closest thing to a real-life dinosaur that the world has likely ever seen.

How could this be possible? You’re probably thinking, don’t crazy people talk to themselves? Society has built this negative stigma around talking to yourself, so many feel embarrassed when caught.

Turns out, it’s actually a sign of being a genius.

Studies show that talking to yourself can make you learn more quickly, think more efficiently, and boost long term memory.

One study, printed by the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, found that verbal stimulation altered ongoing perceptual processing. This means that talking to themselves, especially when repeating the name of an object, significantly helped participants of the study become more receptive to the object they said aloud, making it easier to find the object if they searched for it.

Many experts and studies have actually done research in order to see how talking to yourself helps. Here’s the top ways, all backed up by science.

1. Your brain works more efficiently

In an experiment done by Live Science, test subjects that repeated objects not only found them more easily, but had a better memory and enhanced memorization abilities. Speaking something out loud to yourself actually solidifies what you are doing and makes it more easy for your body to understand.

2. As a child, you’ll learn better

Babies and toddlers need to hear their voices when growing up, as “self directed speech can help guide children’s behavior… often talking themselves step by step through tasks.” By talking aloud to yourself as a youngster, you can vocalize directions and become more adept at following them, or any other process.

3. It helps organize your thoughts

Talking to yourself helps validate important decisions, according to psychologist Linda Sapadin. By speaking out loud, you are vocally prioritizing tasks and de-cluttering your mind. Hearing your issue be vocalized also calms your nerves, instead of it bouncing around in your head.

4. You’ll achieve more goals

Repeating something out loud, especially your goals, will help reinforce your attention and focus, along with eliminate distractions. Walking yourself through the steps will make each one more individual and clear, as opposed to blending them all together. By saying it and hearing it, you mentally condition your brain to put more effort into achieving it.

A Different Kind Of Heart Attack: New Research Finds A Broken Heart Permanently Weakens The Organ In A Similar Way

The human heart is the most important organ in the body. It’s responsible for pumping blood through the body and supplying oxygen and nutrients. Without our heart, we cannot live. For this reason, it is imperative that we take good care of it. But this can become difficult as we grow older. Dealing with death, disappointment, and heartbreak, our heart endures a lot of stress. With that said, a different kind of heart attack has surfaced.
Dealing with emotional stress is extremely difficult. Depression and anxiety are only a few of the many silent killers. In some cases, people do not want to seek help because of the feeling of embarrassment. Other times people do not want to burden anyone with their problems.
They think they’re doing the right thing. But in actuality, they’re damaging their heart. Researchers have discovered that severe emotional stress can physically damage the heart. They have compared the damage to the damage caused by a heart attack.
A different kind of heart attack surfaces and statistics indicate that each year, over 3,000 adults suffer from what is called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. In basic terms, they suffer from broken heart syndrome.

What this syndrome does is it weakens and stuns the heart. When this occurs, the left ventricle can change shape. The left ventricle is one of the main chambers of the heart.

When a different kind of heart attack arises, studies must be done. Last year, Swiss researchers at the University of Aberdeen did a study which concluded that this condition can also be triggered by happiness as well.

The study consisted of 37 patients that currently had Takotsubo for two years. They concluded that the damage the heart sustained after the event remained. They made this discovery through ultrasounds and MRI scans.

The lead researcher on the study, Dr. Dana Dawson, says that this condition is more common than they thought. She added that it could potentially cause permanent damage to a patient’s heart. Dr. Dawson also explains that this condition can cause frequent exhaustion. This could lead to a lack of physical activity, which would damage the heart further.

Professor Jeremy Pearson, who is the Associate Medical Director at the British Heart Foundation, says that there is no long-term treatment for this condition at the moment. The reason for this is that the medical industry thought patients would make full recoveries. Pearson also added that these recent findings suggest that this condition should be treated as if it was a heart attack.

Research also suggests that women are more prone to this condition than men. Scientists are still trying to figure out how this condition occurs. But the facts show that the heart is indeed severely damaged by emotional stress.

When a different kind of heart attack surfaces, the first instinct for some people is to panic. But you shouldn’t have to because there are ways to prevent it. To strengthen your heart I would include hawthorn into your diet. It will strengthen the cardiovascular system, maintain a healthy blood pressure level and lower your cholesterol. You can also try lemon balm. It will relieve restlessness and insomnia. All you need to do is add two teaspoons of lemon balm, some sweetener and lemon juice to a cup of hot water.
