Cody Bell’s (Josh Kelly) family circle on General Hospital has just grown a little bigger with Serena Baldwin (Kelly Kruger) returning to Port Charles. But what exactly connects these two characters, and how are they part of the same family?
How Are Cody and Serena Siblings on GH?
When Cody first came to Port Charles in 2022, he already knew that the late Dominique Stanton (Shell Danielson) was his biological mother. Cody had been placed for adoption as a baby and was raised by the Bell family. For years, he believed that Leopold Taub — Dominique’s cruel and abusive first husband — was his biological father. That assumption eventually proved wrong when DNA testing revealed that Mac Scorpio (John J. York) was Cody’s true biological father. The discovery suddenly gave Cody an entire new branch of relatives through the Scorpio family, including his stepmother Felicia (Kristina Wagner), stepsister Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and second cousin Emma (Braedyn Bruner).
Serena, meanwhile, is the biological daughter of Dominique and Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner). Because both Serena and Cody share Dominique as their mother, Cody is Serena’s maternal half brother.
Back in 1993, Dominique had recently married Scott when she received devastating news: she was suffering from an inoperable brain tumor and did not have long to live. One of Dominique’s deepest wishes was to leave Scott with a child after she was gone. To make that possible, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) agreed to serve as a surrogate and carry Dominique and Scott’s baby. Tragically, Dominique passed away before Serena entered the world.
Not long after Serena’s birth, Scott left Port Charles with his young daughter. Years later, Serena and Lucy reunited on the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, which aired from 1997 through 2003. In 2000, Scott officially asked Lucy if she would adopt Serena, and Lucy happily accepted the opportunity to become her legal mother.
Before Cody appeared as an adult, neither Mac nor Scott had any idea that Dominique had secretly given birth to a son years earlier. They certainly did not know that Mac was the boy’s biological father.
Serena also has several half siblings through her father, Scott — Karen Wexler (Marie Wilson), Logan Hayes (Josh Duhon) and Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth). Sadly, all three of them have died, which means Cody is now Serena’s only surviving biological half sibling.
After spending many years traveling around the world and living away from Port Charles, Serena finally returned to her hometown in July 2026. During the Tuesday, August 11 episode, she and Cody came face-to-face for the very first time. Their initial meeting was warm and friendly, but exactly what kind of brother-and-sister bond they will eventually develop is something viewers will have to wait and see.
