Salem viewers may need to prepare themselves, because the newest developments involving Tate Black, Holly Jonas, and Gwen Rizczech could be paving the way for one of the most surprising romantic catastrophes Days of Our Lives has delivered in quite some time.
What originally looked like nothing more than a straightforward personal-training arrangement at the gym is beginning to feel charged with something far more complicated. And if the growing chemistry between Tate and Gwen keeps developing, Holly may soon be forced to endure yet another painful heartbreak.
For quite some time, Tate and Gwen’s relationship appeared completely innocent. Gwen had been working out with Tate during regular training sessions, and the pair slowly settled into a relaxed, comfortable routine. Their conversations were lighthearted, their teasing felt natural, and there was an unmistakable ease between them. Nothing initially suggested that their connection might ever move into romantic territory.
Everything shifted after Gwen finally made her way back to Salem following her terrifying hostage nightmare in Alamainia involving Dimitri. During her absence, Tate became increasingly concerned when she repeatedly failed to appear for her usual gym sessions. Tate did not simply welcome Gwen back like a trainer greeting a worried client. Instead, he hurried toward her and immediately wrapped her in an emotional hug, making it obvious how relieved he was that she had returned alive and unharmed. Their lives were turned upside down by the manslaughter lawsuit connected to Amy Choy, while EJ DiMera created an even bigger disaster by secretly placing arsenic-laced pills among Holly’s belongings in an effort to cover up his own pharmaceutical crimes.
Tate found it difficult to believe Holly when she repeatedly insisted that she had not been taking drugs, and his lack of faith in her caused major damage to their relationship. Eventually, their romance fell apart completely, leaving both of them deeply hurt. It was only through the involvement of Aaron and Ari that the young couple slowly began moving back toward one another.
Now that Holly and Tate have finally managed to rebuild their connection, another person entering the situation is the last thing either of them needs.
That person may turn out to be Gwen.
Gwen has never exactly enjoyed simple or uncomplicated romances. Ever since she first arrived in Salem, she has repeatedly found herself caught in the middle of emotional chaos. Her painful history with Abigail, her turbulent involvement with Xander, and her disastrous marriage to Dimitri have all demonstrated just how desperately Gwen longs to feel accepted, valued, and genuinely loved.
Throughout her life, Gwen has repeatedly been left feeling as though she is someone’s second choice. She desperately wanted Jack to love her as deeply as he loved Abigail. She hoped Xander would choose her instead of Sarah. She even entered a marriage with Dimitri that was ultimately built more on dishonesty and manipulation than real commitment.
Because of that complicated history, Tate’s attention could affect Gwen much more deeply than he understands.
Tate does not seem to view her as damaged, dangerous, or impossible to deal with. Instead, he appears to treat Gwen like a grown woman worthy of respect and understanding. After everything Gwen has experienced, receiving sincere concern and genuine attention from someone could become incredibly difficult for her to resist.

Gwen and Xander share an extremely complicated history, while Xander himself continues struggling with his own emotional issues involving Sarah. If he suddenly discovered that Gwen had moved on romantically with Tate, the consequences could quickly become explosive.
That possibility is exactly what makes this potential storyline so volatile. A romance between Gwen and Tate would not simply affect Holly, Tate, and Gwen. It could send emotional shockwaves across multiple families throughout Salem.
The Black, Deveraux, DiMera, and Jonas families could all find themselves pulled directly into the consequences.
Most importantly, Tate and Holly’s already fragile relationship might once again be pushed dangerously close to its breaking point.
