Salem has never lacked unbelievable miracles, devastating betrayals, or people who somehow manage to cheat death again and again.
But the newest development involving Lexie Carver could become one of the most disturbing resurrection plots the town has ever witnessed. What was meant to be an extraordinary second chance for Abe Carver and Theo Carver is rapidly turning into a horrifying scientific nightmare, and EJ DiMera may have pushed things beyond a boundary that even Stefano DiMera would have considered dangerously reckless.
Days of Our Lives Thursday Recap: Lexie May Have Only Weeks Left to Live+

Lexie’s miraculous return was supposed to restore something her family believed had been lost forever. Instead, her health has continued to decline, forcing everyone involved to question whether bringing her back was truly a gift or simply the beginning of another heartbreaking disaster. With Dr. Rolf’s newest medical experiment ending in catastrophic failure, EJ is being forced to confront an awful possibility: the woman he was so determined to restore may not survive what was done to bring her back.
And that leads directly to the biggest mystery of all. If Lexie is secretly placed in suspended animation inside a hidden hospital laboratory, does that actually mark the end of her journey—or is EJ already planning another attempt to bring her back for a third time?
Everything about this storyline carries the unmistakable shadow of Stefano DiMera. Stefano became infamous for treating death as though it were merely another obstacle that could be delayed, manipulated, or completely reversed. Bodies were frozen, identities were altered, deaths were staged, and people were often treated as pieces on a massive chessboard. Now EJ seems to be embracing a similarly dangerous way of thinking, except this time his motivation feels far more personal.
EJ is no longer simply attempting to prove that science can overcome death. He appears obsessed with proving that he can be the man who achieves what everyone else considers impossible.
That obsession becomes even more troubling when everything that happened after Lexie’s return is taken into account. Rather than allowing Abe and Theo to simply cherish their unexpected miracle, EJ kept the truth about Lexie’s failing condition from them. Her intense headaches and frightening collapses became harder and harder to conceal, yet Abe and Theo remained unaware of the full danger. EJ stood by as the woman he had helped resurrect slowly deteriorated while he frantically searched for yet another medical solution.
The disastrous failure of Dr. Rolf’s Versavic serum only deepened the crisis. The treatment failed completely, and even the laboratory animal used in the experiment did not survive. For most people, that would have been enough evidence to accept that the procedure simply did not work. EJ, however, appears unwilling to give up.
His determination is beginning to transform into something far more alarming.
EJ’s sense of guilt is also becoming impossible to separate from his hunger to succeed. He wanted Lexie restored, but now he must live with the consequences of making that choice. Every painful headache, every collapse, and every sign of Lexie’s suffering serves as a reminder that the miracle he helped create may have become another nightmare.
That is precisely why Abe’s anger seems unavoidable.
Once Abe finally learns what has really happened, it is difficult to imagine him simply forgiving EJ. To Abe, Lexie is not a medical experiment, a scientific achievement, or proof that death can somehow be defeated. She is the woman he loved, the mother of his son, and one of the most important people in his life. Discovering that EJ secretly interfered with her return and then concealed how badly her condition was deteriorating could shatter whatever trust remained between them.
So when Abe eventually turns on EJ and orders him away from Lexie, it will represent far more than another heated confrontation. It will be a husband and father trying to protect his family from a man whose need to control the outcome has become dangerously obsessive.

And then comes perhaps the cruelest consequence of all: Lexie’s loved ones may not even be able to give her the normal farewell she deserves.
How can Abe and Theo hold a traditional funeral when Lexie’s body is still secretly being kept somewhere beneath the hospital? Instead, they may be forced to gather for an almost unreal memorial service, grieving a woman whose true fate has been hidden from them. While Abe and Theo stand together honoring Lexie’s memory, her frozen body could be resting inside a cryogenic chamber only a few floors below them.
The emotional contradiction would be brutal.
Abe believes he is saying goodbye forever. Theo believes he has lost his mother all over again. Yet somewhere behind the scenes, EJ still refuses to accept that Lexie’s story has truly ended.
That may become the foundation for Salem’s next enormous revelation.
Paulina Price is also trapped in the middle of this emotional catastrophe. She previously stepped aside because she believed Abe deserved the chance to reconnect with the first great love of his life. But Lexie’s return has now created an entirely different and far more complicated situation. Paulina could once again become Abe’s emotional support while simultaneously struggling with a serious crisis inside her own family.
Her daughter Chanel is dealing with major health problems, including breast cancer and a dangerous high-risk pregnancy, while Paulina is also clashing with Johnny DiMera over decisions involving Chanel’s medical care. There is only so much pain and pressure one person can realistically carry at once.
Even so, Paulina could ultimately become the person Abe needs most.
If everyone believes Lexie has been lost once again, Abe will desperately need someone who understands the depth of what he is experiencing. Paulina could naturally become that person without ever deliberately trying to take Lexie’s place. Their connection might begin changing again as Abe attempts to survive yet another crushing loss, creating an emotional complication no one in Salem is truly ready to face.
At the same time, Theo Carver may be heading into a dangerous emotional collapse of his own.
Theo already knew about the unsuccessful medical treatment, meaning he has been forced to carry the painful knowledge that something was seriously wrong with his mother. Losing Lexie for another time could reopen old emotional wounds that he believed he had finally managed to heal.
And that may be where Stephanie Johnson becomes involved.
Days of our Lives Spoilers May 11: Lexie Interrupts the Reading of Stefano’s Will
Stephanie is already struggling to cope with the trauma connected to her kidnapping by Owen Kent. Her emotional and psychological condition remains fragile, especially after the chaotic shooting involving Joy Wesley inside Alex Kiriakis’ apartment. Joy has continued using the incident against Stephanie, increasing her sense of pressure, guilt, and isolation.
Stephanie is already overwhelmed by fear, confusion, and self-blame.
Theo is drowning in grief and helplessness.
Bring those two vulnerable people together, and Salem may soon see a relationship created from shared pain rather than genuine emotional stability.

A potential Theo and Stephanie romance could become extremely complicated. They may find comfort in each other because both understand what it means to feel emotionally overwhelmed. Theo might need someone capable of listening without criticizing him, while Stephanie may desperately want a reason to believe she can still matter to somebody.
But that certainly does not mean their connection would automatically be healthy.
Their unresolved emotional damage could actually make everything more unstable. Rather than helping one another recover, they could slowly become too dependent on each other, opening the door to another complicated and potentially painful chapter in both of their lives.
And while the Carvers attempt to survive the emotional fallout, EJ is quietly fighting another dangerous battle in the background.
The growing conflict over University Hospital may soon become directly connected to the secret surrounding Lexie.
Gwen Rizczech wants more influence and control over the hospital, but EJ clearly has his own reasons for keeping the facility protected. A concealed basement laboratory, hidden cryogenic equipment, and Dr. Rolf’s involvement make the hospital the ideal location for an enormous conspiracy.
EJ simply cannot allow the hospital board to uncover the truth about what he has been doing.
That means additional lies, more manipulation, deeper secrets, and potentially a growing list of enemies.
Chad DiMera, Kristen DiMera, Sarah Horton, and several others could easily become pulled into the aftermath as EJ becomes increasingly desperate to protect his resurrection project. The presence of Rita, one of Stefano’s former associates, makes the entire operation seem even darker and more suspicious.
The further EJ sinks into this conspiracy, the more difficult it will become for him to simply walk away.
Which brings everything back to Lexie.
Could Dr. Rolf eventually create a different serum?
Could Lexie be safely revived after being frozen?
Could Salem actually witness a third resurrection?
Those questions are now hanging over everyone involved, and EJ may be prepared to cross almost any line in order to discover the answers.
The most frightening possibility is that even if the next experiment technically works, there is absolutely no guarantee that Lexie would return as the same woman her family remembers. Every attempt to conquer death seems to demand some kind of terrible price, and EJ could eventually realize that saving Lexie requires something much more dangerous than another injection of Dr. Rolf’s latest formula.
Perhaps the real key to saving Lexie is for EJ to finally understand that not everything can be controlled.
But accepting that reality would require him to admit that he has failed—and accepting defeat has never been one of EJ DiMera’s strongest qualities.
Days of our Lives Recap July 21: Gabi Stuns the Kiriakis Brothers With a Huge Revelation
For the moment, Lexie remains suspended somewhere between life and death, Abe is bracing himself for another devastating loss, Theo is beginning to unravel beneath the weight of his grief, Paulina is being pulled in several painful directions, and Stephanie is trying to survive her own emotional crisis.
At the same time, EJ continues protecting his darkest secret beneath University Hospital.
The real question is no longer whether EJ is capable of bringing Lexie back.
It is how far he is prepared to go in order to make it happen.
And if Dr. Rolf eventually manages to develop another serum that actually works, Salem could be heading toward Lexie Carver’s third resurrection—one that may finally reveal just how dangerous EJ’s obsession has truly become.
Because when someone becomes determined to prevent the dead from remaining dead, the worst part of the nightmare may only be starting.
